I was referred to the Arise® Platform by a friend that I had worked with before. At the time, she’d been using the platform for 7 years or so, (now 15!) and said, “you’re going to love it!” and she’s right, I do!

I love the freedom of being in control of my own work and life. I am a grandmother of 10, soon to be 11, and the Arise® Platform gives me the freedom to navigate my life around it. Many people work in customer service and don’t feel free or liberated. As a Service Partner on the Arise® Platform, you don’t have the rigidity of working brick-and-mortar. And there is always support. We’re business partners – it makes you feel good to be a good partner.

With the flexibility of the Arise® Platform, I’ve been able to navigate some challenging situations in life. My father was elderly and handicapped, and I was able to care for him up until his dying day. I was able to care for my brother until he passed away as well. And now I take care of my nephew who is autistic and nonverbal, and servicing on the Arise® Platform gives me the opportunity to be consistent with him.

I love serving customers and having conversations with them. My grandmother always said, “we’re not strangers in this world.”

I would recommend the Arise® Platform for the freedom it provides to control your own work and life.

I was referred to the Arise® Platform by a friend who had been using it for years. She introduced me to the platform as a side gig. I had been looking for a way to make more money on my own time and not be away from home.

When I started on the platform, a year after getting married, it allowed me to help bring revenue into the household and boost my savings account. I had a full-time job but needed something extra to help with bills. After a couple of years of servicing I took a break—I had my first child—and then I decided to go back. After separating from my husband in 2022, it’s the reason I’m able to take care of my 6-year-old who was diagnosed with Autism and ADHD, plus having the liberty to be home with him and still bring in extra revenue.

Starting my own business, establishing that foundation, and choosing to grow and expand my brand, I find a great sense of ownership. I am more cognizant of my business skills, my communication skills, ensuring I provide the best service. With all of the resources and leverage that I have, it has bettered my life by allowing me to sharpen my skills daily.

The support that I’ve gotten while servicing the banking institution client program has been really inspiring. I get extra income, extra freedom, extra liberty by scheduling my own intervals.

There are several times that I felt like I made a difference while servicing the banking institution client. I’ve spoken with customers that were facing really difficult things, and they know that I’m sympathizing with them. As a matter of fact, I spoke with a customer just this week who had just lost her husband and needed help removing his name from her account. She was so grateful for how compassionate I was about what she was facing. It’s comforting to have those kind of experiences. I hold those calls near and dear to my heart.

Atlanta, GA – April 24-26, 2024

The African American Mayors Association (AAMA) is the nation’s only organization dedicated exclusively to supporting and advocating for the needs of Black mayors and Black-led cities. African American mayors are leading the country’s largest and smallest communities, impacting the everyday lives of more than 30 million Americans. As a first-time attendee, it was truly an honor meeting some of the nation’s brightest and most inspiring city executives while highlighting the contributions of the thousands of business owners in their communities who make the Arise® Platform thrive.

The highlight of the conference, of course, was the opportunity to meet up and have dinner with our amazing Service Partners. We even got photobombed by Darby, PA mayor Darren Burrell!

The conference was an occasion to converse with decision-makers in the public sector and an opportunity to share successful strategies and new ideas. We look forward to continuing engagement with vital stakeholders about our Service Partner community and the many benefits of the Arise® Platform.

Washington, DC – July 17-19, 2024

Over the past year Arise has been privileged to engage with a number of prominent organizations focused on entrepreneurship and economic empowerment in the minority community. One of our most exciting partnerships is with the U.S. Black Chambers, Inc., (USBC) which held its national conference at the Waldorf Astoria. This event was a landmark occasion, marking 15 years of unparalleled commitment to fostering the growth and success of Black businesses. As a first-time attendee I was thrilled to attend with SPARC members Tamika McCrae and Annie Wofford to learn about the many resources available to established and growing Black enterprises.

The event started with a business day featuring Maryland Governor Wes Moore engaging in an armchair discussion on Creating Pathways to Work, Wages, and Wealth; Former Mayor of Sacramento and NBA legend Kevin Johnson discussing his journey from sports to politics to entrepreneurship; and U. S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo.

Thursday was dedicated to advocacy with a series of impactful sessions. Stacey Abrams addressed DE&I and democracy, followed by an armchair conversation on women’s reproductive rights with Planned Parenthood CEO Alexis McGill Johnson. The day culminated with a keynote address by Dr. Jamal Bryant, and USBC honored Rev. Al Sharpton with the 2024 Advocate of the Year award for his unwavering commitment to social justice and economic equality.

The celebration reached its zenith on Friday, with the 15th Anniversary Gala featuring live performances by the Bowie State Choir and Kindred the Family Soul. USBC also presented annual awards during the gala, including Chamber of the Year to the Atlanta Black Chamber of Commerce, Corporation of the Year to Verizon, and Small Business of the Year to Black Promoters Collective.

The conference also featured entrepreneurship workshops including personalized advice by USBC experts and resources to boost Black businesses. Our Service Partners found these to be particularly valuable, in addition to the opportunity to network and share information with other successful business owners.

Overall, the conference was a wonderful chance to connect with and be inspired by leaders dedicated to advocacy, economic empowerment, and Black business. Look forward to coming back next year!

Washington, D.C. – December 2-3, 2024

Arise recently traveled to the nation’s capital to attend the 48th Annual National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) Conference. With more than 700 members representing more than 60 million Americans, NBCSL serves as a national network, advocate and catalyst for public policy innovation, information exchange, and joint action on critical issues affecting African Americans and other marginalized communities.

Arise was honored to host and moderate a pre-conference panel discussion titled “The Gig Economy and the Future of Work: Shaping Public Policy for a Changing Workforce” which explored how legislators can shape the future of work policies that offer flexibility, economic opportunity and entrepreneurial growth in communities of color.

In addition to representatives from Arise, the panel also included two Service Partners who shared their heartfelt and inspiring stories on what the Arise Platform has meant to their lives. The feedback from legislators was amazing, and we look forward to working with them to support legislation and regulations that help, not hinder, gig workers.

Overall, it was an engaging and impactful discussion which stressed the importance of providing economic opportunity and flexible work choices to small businesses and entrepreneurs. Many thanks NBCSL who have provided unwavering support over the past year. We are incredibly appreciative of forums like this where we can educate lawmakers on the incredible benefits of flexible work. Check out the highlights below!
